Specific functions within the Style Menu

Choosing a musical style for your track

To pick a musical style, first go to the Style Menu by tapping the Style Menu icon.

The different musical styles in the app are listed down the left hand side shaded area of the Style Menu.

Tap on a particular style to reveal a description of that style including its default tempo (BPM – Beats Per Minute) and its time signature (e.g. 4/4). From here, you can access the SessionBand demo tracks.

In the case of the newer SessionBand apps (Soul Jazz Funk 1, 2 & 3, Jazz Fusion and Jazz Vol.4) you can also access an audio preview of all the alternative drum grooves and drum fills for that particular style by tapping the PREVIEW button.

Creating a brand new track in a chosen style

To create a brand new track in the style you have selected in the Style Menu, tap the ‘Create New’ button in the top right hand corner.

You will then be taken back to the Play screen with 2-bars of the default chord in your chosen style loaded into a new track. An asterisk next to the song title shows that the track has not been saved yet.

Changing the musical style of a track you have already created

To hear a track you have already created in a different style, first make sure the track is open (in the main Play screen). Then tap the Style Menu button and select a new style for your track from the list of styles. Tap the ‘Apply Style’ button in the top right hand corner and you will be taken back to the main Play screen with your track now loaded up in the new style.

Note that this function will not be possible if the existing and the new styles have different time signatures (e.g. a track in 3/4 cannot be played in 4/4).

Playing a demo track

Go to the Style Menu by tapping the Style Menu button. Choose a musical style to reveal the style description and the demo tracks in that style. Select a demo track to play and/or edit.

Tip: The demo tracks are often a great way to get started with SessionBand and experiment with. They cannot be deleted from the app but can be saved and edited to create your own version of the track.

Getting back to the Play screen from the Style Menu

To get back to the Play screen from the Style Menu, tap the Style Menu button once.
